Your baby’s first birthday is a magical time, so why not celebrate by throwing a unicorn-themed party? These majestic creatures are a favourite among young children and adults alike, with their beautiful horns and intriguing mythology.
We’ve rounded up some of our favourite ways to throw a first birthday party with a unicorn theme.
If you’re after even more first birthday party ideas, head over to our extensive list of themes for one-year-olds.
1. Decor.
The first rule of a unicorn party is making sure that your venue of choice is covered with shimmery fabrics and glitter. After all, these legendary horses are stunning creatures and your room needs to reflect that. Don’t forget little details like pretty flowers and rainbows to make your space stand out.

2. Food and drink.
Everyone loves a themed food table, so fill yours with vibrant snacks and nibbles. Keep it healthy with a colourful array of fruit cubes, or indulge with a selection of delicious sweets and treats. Meanwhile, pink lemonade is the perfect choice for keeping the little ponies hydrated.

3. The cake.
A first birthday cake has got to be extra special. It’s true that your baby won’t be able to appreciate the hard work that went into baking it, but your friends and family will. Plus, the photos will be around for years to come. This simple, yet effective unicorn head cake is absolutely adorable.

4. Costumes.
Get everyone involved and have them come as their favourite mythical creature, with your little one, of course being a sparkly unicorn. Have cute horn headbands to hand just in case someone forgets to dress up.

5. Venue ideas.
Your back garden or living room would be the perfect venue for this birthday bash. After all, you don’t want to stray too far from home if you have a little one in tow.

6. Party games and activities.
Bubbles are a great way to occupy and enchant young babies, so be sure to grab a bubble machine if you want to add a special dimension to your party. For the older ones, a modern twist on the classic ‘pin the tail on the donkey’ will work a treat.

7. Party favours.
Babies and young toddlers won’t get much use out of hazardous balloons and e-number-infused sweets that you would usually find in party bags. So, stick to a cute cuddly unicorn for a nice and sensible party favour. These can also be enjoyed by grown-ups too.
