If you’re organising a mermaid birthday party you’re going to need some fun mermaid theme party activities, games and crafts to do. We’ve rounded up some of the best activities for a mermaid party with children of all ages.
Pin the mermaid tail
Pin the tail is a popular game at kids parties and can easily be adapted to a mermaid party theme. This one pins the tail onto to bottom of the mermaid. You can DIY it with a big mermaid poster and then make individual tails with sticky pads for all your party guests.

Sand art
Great for an under the sea theme party, these little sand art kits are easy to do and provide a cute favor for all the kids to take home at the end of the party. All you need is different coloured sand and some little bottles for your guests to spoon the sand layers into.

Mermaid headpiece
This beautiful headpiece is easy to craft and will make a fun party favour for the children to take home. Use a glittery tiara for the base and then provide lots of colourful shells that can be glued on for a fun mermaid effect.

Mermaid face painting
This is a great activity if your guests are going to be dressing up as mermaids for the party. Either hire someone in to do it or watch a few YouTubes on mermaid face painting if you’re feeling artistic.

Mermaid photo fun
Set up a fun photo prop station for you guests with either a mermaid photo backdrop, photo props or a fairground style face cut out.

Fishing Fun!
This fun fishing game can be played indoors or out depending on the time of year and the weather. Set up a paddling pool and make some fishing roads using poles and string. Either have fish with loops and hooks on the rods or use magnets. You can do it as a minute to win it type of game to find who can hook the most fish.

Decorate a treasure chest
What can be found at the bottom of the sea? Lots of treasure for you and me! Get your guests to decorate a treasure chest as part of your party and then they can be filled with candy as their favour gift.

Mermaid race
A fun game with lots of laughs, try a mermaid race with your party guests. All you need is a mermaid tail (make it using fabric or use a trash bag), tape it securely so it doesn’t slip off and then get them to mermaid swim across the floor. Award points for style as well as speed so everyone has a chance!

Seashore dig
A good activity for toddlers as it combines sensory play with one of their favourite pastimes: digging! Just set up a sandpit or paddling pool with some sand, bury a load of sea-related items and give them something to dig with.
