A dinosaur-themed first birthday party is an excellent choice for a gender neutral theme that is suitable for all ages. One of the main concerns of party planners is how they’re going to entertain their guests. This is particularly difficult for little ones; babies tend to have short attention spans. However, if you keep the activities simple, yet fun, everyone is bound to have a magnificent time. We’ve got lots of fun activities for you to try.
If you want more inspiration for a very special first birthday party theme, we have loads of ideas to choose from.
1. Dinosaurumpus game.
We adore this superb game based on the book Dinosaurumpus. It’s a dinosaur gross motor movement game for kids that makes everyone giggle with delight. You can follow the step-by-step instructions here. All you need to do is read the book aloud and get the kids moving to the rhymes as the dinosaurs dance an irresistible romp.

2. Dig for the Diplodocus.
This dinosaur dig game is a fabulous idea. Just hide plastic dinosaur toys in a sandpit (or storage box if you don’t have a sandpit) and cover with play sand. If you don’t want to use sand, you could cover the dinosaurs with dried rice or pasta. The children will have a blast trying to find all the buried prehistoric beasts.

3. Pin the horn on the Triceratops.
We adore this dino alternative to the classic party game. Just Tri to pin the horn on the herbivore.

4. Freeplay ideas.
Sometimes, the little ones don’t want to join in with the big games, so it’s a wonderful idea to have a quiet corner. Just set up an area with a variety of plastic and soft dinosaur toys and the children can have endless amounts of fun.

5. Dino rhymes.
Why not get the little ones up dancing around with this delightful dinosaur rhyme?

6. Prehistoric Playdoh.
Children absolutely love playing with Playdoh. Encourage them to make their own creatures and then add some dried pasta for authentic looking scales.

7. Pass the dinosaur.
This game is similar pass-the-parcel, but instead of passing a wrapped parcel around a circle, you pass around an (unwrapped) toy dinosaur. Play some music and when the music stops the one holding the toy is out. Repeat until everybody but one is out. The child left holding the dinosaur is the winner and gets a prize.

Decided not to have a dinosaur party? Don’t worry, we have a whole list of other fantastic first birthday ideas here.
